Prepped and Primed

Only until recently did I really begin using primers. Mainly because I didn't really believe they did anything and whilst I'd tried a few in the past, I never found them to bring about good results - I'd always end up with an oily face (which no-one wants). I was first properly introduced to primer after I bought 'The Best of Benefit' gift set at Christmas. I'd heard good things about Benefit 'Porefessional Primer' but never thought it would be worth the money picking it up. I tested it for a few days under my foundation and began to realise how great it was. It provided a smooth finish to my skin which made foundation application a dream. After attending a blogger event with Smashbox, I was lucky to receive a few products in a goody bag which included their notorious Photo Finish Primer. It is oil free and once applied to the skin also provides a smooth base for foundation application. I really started to like using primers as I felt they were improving the lasting power of my foundation during really long days and prevented my t-zone from getting too oily during the day. Hearing raves about The Body Shop's Pore Minimiser which also acts as a primer, I rushed out and grabbed it and it has proved to be one of my favourite products of spring so far. If you're on the fence about whether you should try using primer, I would definitely say give it a go and persevere because they really do make make up application easier and leave your skin looking flawless.

  1. I was the exact same - with regards to not believing primers actually done anything beneficial - but I then came across Benefit's Porefessional and it completely changed my outlook on primers and is now a product I often reach for. But I have to admit, I'm more in favour of smashbox primers over any other - especially their photo finish primer - simply amazing4. Great post!

  5. I've only recently got into primer as well, it doesn't make the hugest difference for me but it is worth using for occasions! I have a teeny sample of the Porefessional and am loving it, but I also really enjoy the more illuminating primers as well!

    1. That's a shame it doesn't make a huge difference. I do love illuminating primers too, they make your skin look so glowy. x

  7. I really didn't like the porefessional primer, i've repurchased it once and i realised it just makes my skin look very oily and my makeup just sort of sits on top of it and it's threatening to wipe away if i touch my face :( I'm currently deciding wether or not to use bare minerals prime time or smashbox next! Let me know how smashbox is for you :)
